Petroleum Driver Passport (PDP)

Petroleum Driver Passport (PDP) in the UK and Europe with Llewellyn (Safety Advisors) Europe Ltd

The Petroleum Driver Passport (PDP) is an industry initiative backed by government to ensure all tanker drivers in the UK are trained and assessed to a consistent, high standard.

It has been created by the Downstream Oil Industry Distribution Forum (DODF) — a partnership of employers, industry bodies and trade unions.

The DODF has appointed the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) to manage the PDP. SQA already manages the ADR scheme — the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road. Many if not all terminals require that you are in possession of PDP.

The PDP scheme sets a benchmark in competency against which all road tanker drivers who are loading, transporting and offloading petroleum fuel products in road tankers in the UK are measured. Competency is assessed using both classroom and practical techniques. The passport is renewed on a five-year cycle, but also has an annual refresher requirement.

COURSE OVERVIEW?

The PDP contains classroom training with a written exam along with a practical assessment, both of which need to be completed every five years. You are also required to attend classroom training and a practical assessment every 12 months to maintain the validity of our PDP. The PDP consists of two parts. Theory and practical and we can offer both services.

Theory is classroom training covering key content from the Industry Training Standard. You will then take a written (multiple choice) assessment, set by SQA.

There is also a practical assessment in the industry sub-sector most relevant to your workload. A qualified and approved PDP assessor will assess you.

Must be done within 4 months of the theory. The practical can only be carried out as part of your daily work.
